FAQ

You may be seeking counseling as a result of a crisis. Perhaps friends, relatives, or colleagues have encouraged you to seek counseling. Taking the initiative may seem daunting. Hope this section on frequently asked questions helps you.

How do I know if I need a counselor?

Counselors can help you gain clarity, change habitual patterns, deconstruct complex personal issues, or begin a personal journey of self-discovery and self-development.

What happens in a counseling session? What do I talk about during a session?

Counseling sessions are unique to the individual, and no two sessions are alike. I am highly trained in listening and reflecting. My training includes several counseling modalities. I will provide a safe environment in which to explore your issues. Please bring your concerns, feelings, thoughts, regrets, and worries to the session if you want long-term therapy. For short-term therapy, there will be a focus on understanding your thoughts and actions and using practical exercises and exposure therapy (MiCBT), a more structured approach.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes! I’m a Certified Clinical Counsellor and I follow a code of conduct and ethics, and policies regarding confidentiality. Your information will not be shared with a third party unless required by law.

How long will my therapy last?

You may choose short-term solution-focused therapy, which lasts a minimum of 12 weeks. It may be clinically appropriate to see a counselor for 2- years or more. The duration is unique to the individual’s needs.

How much does therapy cost?

My online practice caters to clients in many countries and currencies. Generally, the cost per counseling session is 100 – 150 USD., depending on the length of the session.

If you need low-cost sessions, try community mental health agencies that provide counseling at a reduced fee. Community agencies, hospitals, and clinics often have students in training or interns who charge little or nothing for hours towards licensure.

What is the difference between counseling and psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a broad term used to describe talk therapy. Generally, psychotherapy holds a long-term approach, whereas counseling tends to focus on crises.

Psychological therapies fall into the following categories: art therapies utilize creative arts in the therapeutic process, behavioral therapies that focus on behaviors and cognitions. Couple counseling looks to resolve relationship issues experienced by couples. Humanistic therapies focus on self-development in the here-and-now. Psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies focus on unconscious patterns that started in childhood.

What is Compassion-focused therapy (CFT)?

CFT aims to help individuals suffering from feelings of self-criticism

and shame that foster mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. It helps develop your ability to be more compassionate to yourself and others by challenging how you think. I will help you to understand why you feel the way you do. And you will learn to regulate your negative thoughts of self-blame.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness/Meditation is a method of mental training and is not a religion. Mindfulness practice helps to see the world with more clarity. It’s about observing without judgment. When unhappiness arrives, you learn to observe it rather than spiraling down into depression.

The practice of mindfulness positively affects habitual patterns that underly anxiety, depression, irritability, and stress.
